Ed Ram: Pastor's corner

April 12, 2012

Isn't it wonderful this time of the year when all the trees and plants are in bloom along with the different fragrances in the air? I love spring time because it reminds me of new and better experiences on the way.

The other day the Lord reminded me of a scripture that blessed me and I want to share it with you as well. It's found in Isaiah 43:18-19 "Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

A New Thing

Notice that in verse 18 he instructs us on not to dwell upon the things of the past? Many times when we dwell on the past we become discouraged or sadden because of past experiences. It's very difficult to go forward when you are constantly focusing your attention on the past. I'm sure there are wonderful experiences that have happened in your life that have brought joy to your heart, but there are also unpleasant ones that if we constantly dwell upon them they can bring us down.

I believe the Lord desires for us to focus more on what's ahead than on what's behind us. To complain or rehearse our unpleasant past experiences will only discourage us and give us a sense of dissatisfaction. Yet on the other hand when we choose to look ahead for better and brighter things to come there's a sense of joy and anticipation of things to experience in our life.

I love what the Lord says in verse 19; "I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth."

Take a minute today and say out loud, the Lord is doing new and better things in my life right now. Begin to say over and over again my future looks brighter, and better days are ahead. Have you ever noticed that when you speak or think on good things you begin to even feel a whole lot better?

I remember not long ago I was talking to one of my relatives and it became very obvious that the more he spoke of being unhappy and complaining about his physical condition it brought about a sense of discouragement and disappointment to the both of us. I knew that in order for us to come out of this unpleasant feeling we would need to change the direction of our conversation.

Sure enough as I began to speak of the victory we have in Christ and that we can expect things to get a whole lot better the atmosphere changed along with peace and joy that filled the room. I've come to learn that joy, peace and true happiness begins in the heart of a person and not by the experiences he or she may have. Begin today to believe for brighter days to come and watch what will happen in just a matter of a few days. This is something I like to say often, The Rest of My Life Is The Best of My Life.

I'd like to invite you to come and visit with us at Praise Fellowship International Church we are located at 615 E. Street in Los Banos. Our services are on Sunday 10am and Wednesday 7 p.m.
