A male was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon in a gang-related shooting involving three vehicles and multiple suspects.
The victim is being treated at Memorial Hospital, Los Banos for his injuries and is reportedly in stable condition.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. police responded to the 600 block of Third Street near G street after receiving a report of a drive-by shooting.
Officers arrived and learned that an 18-year-old male had been transported to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.
Witnesses reported told police a male with short hair fled the area southbound on Fourth Street, in a white Chevrolet sedan. Two other vehicles involved in the incident were described as a silver Mercedes Benz and a maroon Toyota. Witnesses reported seeing a male in the Toyota with a handgun, police said.
Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said a Sgt. Jason Hedden located the silver Mercedes and the Toyota parked on the 700 block of H Street. The suspects, six in all, were detained before 2 p.m. at a residence on the street.
Reyna said police obtained a search warrant for the residence Tuesday evening. Police found a loaded handgun, approximately 5.2 ounces of methamphetamine, digital scales, and approximately $13,000 at the home.
Robert Aragon, 19, and Brandon Torres, 20, both of Los Banos, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales. Torres was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm.
Torres posted bail and is scheduled to appear in Merced County Superior Court on May 18. Aragon is in custody at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 bail.
"We don't believe either of them was the shooter," Reyna said.
Reyna said police are searching for more suspects who were in the white Chevrolet sedan. He said police are specifically looking for the male with short hair.
Police said the incident is being investigated as gang-related. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Justin Melden at (209) 827-7070 ext. 114.
