If you're a parent, you know how challenging it is to raise children in today's society.
One of the advantages we have today is the Internet in gathering information that will assist us in raising responsible and caring children.
I love being a father because I enjoy spending time with my children. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is Psalms 127:3: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Children are a heritage from the Lord because it's an honor to be a parent. Think about how dull life would be without hearing the laughter of children.
When my son and daughter were little babies I used to make them laugh because of how sweet they sounded. Many times because of family challenges we forget that our children need our encouragement instead of always being told what to do.
Take a moment and think about the impact it would have on your relationship with your children if you encouraged or praised them more often. It could be how well they've been doing in school, keeping their bedroom clean, helping out around the house, how beautiful they look today or just simply letting them know how glad you are being their father. Those words of kindness will make a lasting impression upon their lives. Also their love and respect for you will skyrocket.
I had no idea how to encourage or praise my children until I began doing some research. I'm a firm believer that when you ask the right questions you get the right answers.
Most of us were never taught how to be a parent but, regardless, there's always time. Now that doesn't mean we're perfect but it does mean we never stop growing.
Parenting is a blessing from the Lord and we should thank our Father for giving us the opportunity to have children. One of the reasons why we host our Youth Collide Rally event several times a years is because we want the youth to know and experience the love we have for them. March 25 at 3 p.m. is the next Youth Collide Rally. During the event there will be live music from several bands, free food and refreshment, door prizes, games, free giveaways, and much more. This event is free and open to all the youth in our community.
I hope you visit with us at Praise Fellowship International Church at 615 E St., Sunday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
