Dennis Stubbs is returning to Golden Valley.

The school announced on Tuesday that Stubbs was hired as the head football coach.

Stubbs coached at Golden Valley from 1995-2006, before leaving to take over at Los Banos. Stubbs led the Cougars to three Central California Conference titles and two Sac-Joaquin Section championship game appearances during his 12-year stint, and took LB to the SJS D-I semifinals two years ago.

The Tigers were 36-21 under his leadership.

"When I left before it was something I needed to do," Stubbs said. "It wanted to go out and start from scratch. I had to prove to myself I could do it. I don't regret it. Now I'm ready for another challenge. I was to use the same formula and see if it works out."

Stubbs led Los Banos to two league championships and four playoff appearances in his five years. He has compiled a 124-83-1 career record in his 19 years as head coach.

He takes over a Golden Valley program that has gone 16-34 in his absence.

"Dennis has all of the qualities we were looking for to lead our program," Golden Valley principal Constantino Aguilar said in a statement. "Dennis is a great role model for our students and is well respected within our community and among the Cougar staff."
