A homicide victim who was found dead in his apartment on Thanksgiving Day has been identified by the Merced County Coroner’s Office.

Timothy James, 52, of Los Banos, was discovered on the floor of his apartment in the 1100 Block of D Street. Police responded to the scene at 6:29 a.m. He was pronounced dead soon afterward.

On Monday law enforcement said the victim suffered “a suspicious injury on his body.” By Tuesday an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be blunt-force trauma to the head. Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said the homicide does not appear to be gang related. He declined, however, to state whether police are investigating any specific suspects in the killing. No arrest warrants have been issued.

“We’re looking at a few different things and following up on anything we can,” Reyna said.

The incident marks the third homicide in Los Banos this year. In August brothers Ruben Sanchez, 34, and Angel Rodriguez, 30, died after being shot in the 500 block of I Street near Club Azul. That incident involved the Mongols motorcycle gang, authorities said.

Anyone with information related to the killing is asked to contact Detective Jake Bento at (209)827-7070 ext. 115 or leave an anonymous tip on the city website at www.losbanos.org
