The Pacheco boys basketball team may not have the height in its first season of varsity play, but the Panthers will have energy.

Pacheco displayed the kind of energy it will have in a 55-25 scrimmage win over Turlock Christian on Tuesday at home. Dominique Prophete led the Panthers with 12 points, while Edgar Iglesias drained a trio of 3-pointers for nine points and Lakhan Patel added eight points.

Pacheco jumped out early with 22 points in the first quarter, and ran a trapping full-court press to keep Turlock Christian to 10 points.

Nobody scored much in the second quarter, other than an Iglesias 3-pointer.

Pacheco's offense regained its footing after halftime, with 12 in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth.

Pacheco's JV squad defeated Turlock Christian's JV 45-40, with Zhavaughn Davis scoring 14 to lead the Panthers.

It was the second game of the night for many of Turlock Christian's JV players, who filled out the freshman team to give Pacheco's freshmen a game. That contest turned into a 44-31 win for Turlock Christian.

Pacheco's varsity has one more scrimmage -- the Foundation Game on Monday on the road against Lathrop -- before the official start for all three squads Tuesday at home against Orestimba.

Pacheco's girls travel to Orestimba the same night.
