No. LB's varsity numbers are about even with years past, according to coach Dennis Stubbs.

"Probably where we're feeling it is the lower levels," Stubbs said. "When I first got here, we had 75 to 90 players that were at least interested in playing. Now we have 30."

In the next few years, maybe.

Is Chris Corpuz the quarterback or will there be a battle in camp?

Stubbs says Corpuz, a junior, is the starter after a solid summer of camps and passing tournaments.

"His learning curve is high, and he just keeps getting better and better," Stubbs said. "Now we're able to get some live stuff and some action. That'll be the final tale, but he's our guy."

Who fills the shoes left by graduated senior running back Darron Brown?

Nobody's quite sure yet. Stubbs wouldn't commit to a running-back-by-

committee, but there are four players who can fill that role -- seniors Garrett Mentz and Greg Williams and juniors James Sams and Delvonte Moore.

"Mentz is the senior, he's going to get his shot. He'll get his reps," Stubbs said. "James Sams is a special player, and then Williams, he played tailback for us as a sophomore, so we've been making sure he's getting reps. Then we have Dede Moore, who might be the most natural tailback."

It's a new situation for Stubbs, who has relied on one player to be his workhorse since he took over the program.

What impact will Bryce Howard have on the defensive line?

The real question is what impact he will have on the offensive line. Howard will start at both defensive tackle and offensive left tackle.

"It's unbelievable, night and day, the gains he has made from the beginning of last season to now," Stubbs said. "He's not going to take off from where he was last year, he's starting like it's halfway through this year. That's how impressive he's been."

Will LB compete for a league title?

The Tigers were close to a league title last year, and figure to be in the mix once again.

"I'm sure people are going to put us up there, but Patterson is loaded, Central has got a chip on their shoulder, and people are really circling that date for the first league game at our place," Stubbs said. "We'll have to earn it."
