A woman was shot a block from a convenience store Tuesday afternoon, bringing the number of shootings in Los Banos to 13 since April.
Sgt. Zina Holden said at about 4:15 p.m. the department received a report of a shooting at the intersection of Canal Farm and Miller lanes.
When police arrived they found an unidentified woman lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to the leg. Assistant Fire Chief Tim Marrison, who was at the scene with paramedics, said the woman may have been shot in other areas of the body, but he could not be certain where.
Paramedics were getting her stabilized and off to Modesto, Marrison said.
He said the victim was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
The victims condition was unknown as of presstime.
Holden said police are still gathering information from witnesses, but authorities believe the suspect fled west on Canal Farm Lane. She said police are not ready to release a description of the suspect.
The shooting occurred a block away from a Circle K convenience store and gas station. It was the 13th shooting in Los Banos in four months. There is no word on whether this incident is gang related, 10 of the previous shootings have been.
