Police arrested a man after he allegedly burglarizing two cars early Wednesday morning.

According to Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr., at 3:44 a.m. Officer Danny O’Day responded to an address on the 900 Block of Idaho Avenue on a report of a vehicle burglary in progress. When O’Day arrived, 28-year-old Charles Johnson was reportedly attempted to flee on foot and jumped a fence. He was caught by Officer Preston Jelen.

Three hours before the incident officers responded to similar call in the 200 Block of W. L Street. That victim reported that she interrupted a vehicle burglary when she went outside to remove something from her car. The victim provided a description that, police say, matched Johnson. The woman later identified Johnson as the person who burglarized her vehicle, police said.

Johnson was placed under arrest on suspicion of two counts of vehicle burglary, resisting arrest and for an outstanding Merced County vehicle burglary warrant. Johnson is in custody at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility in lieu of $45,000 bail.
