Los Banos goes 0-3 against Rocklin
Tigers overpowered on all three levels

Before the varsity squad got a shot at Rocklin's Boise-bound quarterback Friday, the lower levels got their crack. And neither one of them ended the way the Tigers hoped, with a 21-12 junior varsity loss and a 17-6 freshman loss.
Rocklin jumped ahead in the second quarter with touchdown passes of 78 and 7 yards after a scoreless first quarter.
"We had a couple of big mistakes, two blown coverages," said Darin Heredia, who coaches both JV and freshman. "Eliminate those mistakes and we win."
Los Banos struck back near the end of the third quarter with a touchdown on a broken play. Quarterback Chris Corpuz watched the snap go over his head on second and 15, then caught the ball on the first bounce, scrambled, and launched a pass to Delvonte Moore in the end zone.
A touchdown run in the fourth extended Rocklin's lead to 21-6, and Los Banos scored again on a Corpuz quarterback sneak at 3:52. The two-point conversion failed.
"We would have been within a touchdown of tying or winning," Heredia said. "We had our offense clicking. If we got the conversion and the onside kick, we had a good chance."
Los Banos went for the onside kick, which Rocklin recovered for the final nail in the coffin.
Los Banos had just as tough a time in the freshman game, a 17-6 loss.
"Their freshman team was big, physical and fast," Heredia said. "I was very proud of our freshman team. We fought hard."
All the scoring occured in the first half -- starting with an 8-yard Rocklin touchdown run, followed by a field goal after Los Banos gave up a fumble.
Robert Gill put the Tigers back in the game with an 82-yard kickoff return following the field goal.
"We didn't get film or anything," Heredia said. "So we were kind of flying by the seat of our pants."
In the second quarter, Los Banos' defense had Rocklin back up to its own 3-yard line when the quarterback hit his receiver on a streak for a 97-yard score.
"Fix what was wrong and forget about it." Heredia said about his words to his defense following the play.
The second half was a defensive affair, with a Nathan Vander Poel interception and a Chris Lonetree sack.
Said Lonetree, "We wanted to set the tone."
