Man arrested after auto theft

On Aug. 19 at 11:20 p.m., Los Banos Police Department responded to the 100 Block of North Santa Rita Street for a report of an auto theft.

A man told officers a neighbor witnessed an Hispanic male drive away in his vehicle, police said. A short while later, the victim's car was located in the 500 Block of North Santa Venetia Street after being driven into a tree.

Witnesses reported seeing a male running away from the vehicle and into a residence on Santa Barbara Street, police said. A subsequent search allowed law enforcement to locate 20-year-old Anselmo Delgadillo, of Los Banos.

Police said Delgadillo was intoxicated when officers found him. Delgadillo was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, leaving the scene of a traffic accident, DUI and a misdemeanor arrest warrant. Delgadillo is currently in custody at the The John Lattoraca Correctional Facility in lieu of $ 45,000 bail.
