A gang-related fight led to a shooting Tuesday evening, police said.
Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2200 Block of East B Street. When officers arrived they learned there was a gang fight and the participants sped away in two vehicles that were last seen driving toward Ward Road.
One of the cars was located in the area of Ward Road and Pacheco Boulevard, Reyna said.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver, 50-year-old Lucille Telly of Los Banos, led police on a two-mile chase through the city. The vehicle stopped in the 500 Block of West I Street, which is near Memorial Hospital Los Banos. Officers discovered that a passenger in the car was suffering from a gunshot wound to the legs.
The victim, a 42-year-old male, of San Jose, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital Modesto and is currently in stable condition.
Reyna said officers learned Telly was present during the original fight. She was arrested on suspicion of failing to yield to emergency vehicles. Telly is currently in custody at Merced County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Investigators are searching for the second vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting incident. The only description authorities have of the vehicle is that it is a lowered white truck. Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Los Banos Det. Justin Melden at 827-7070 ext. 114 or Det. Jason Hedden at 827-7070 ext. 146.
The investigation is ongoing. Police said no further information will be released at this time.
