The Los Banos Little League National 11-year-old All-Star Team can tell you about intense.

They can also tell you about revenge after a 4-3 victory over the Madera all-stars, a team that defeated Los Banos 11-4 the week before.

"This feels good," said Ricky Abejuela, the smallest guy on the team who hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to put Los Banos on top for good.

The win put Los Banos into the championship round Thursday against Turlock. Results were not available at time of print.

That sixth inning started with a leadoff double from Joshua Gould, but he was thrown out at the plate on a Jake Lonetree double a play later. Lonetree crossed easily on Abejuela's double for the go-ahead run.

"I was just thinking I needed to hit it," Abejuela said. "I was happy and stuff. It felt good."

Abejuela's heroics might not have been possible without the mound presence of the team's closer, James Bostick, who came in not for the save, but for the win.

Bostick came in from second base to take over pitching duties with the game tied in the bottom of the fifth and runners on first and second bases, after Madera tied the game with two straight doubles.

"We have to get it done. Shut them out," Bostick said about his mindset on the mound. "Go pitch after pitch. Throw strikes."

There were no outs.

"That's it, we had to play defense," said Los Banos coach Dave Gould, who filled the position while head coach Gary Silva was in Las Vegas for his daughter's cheerleading tournament. "Can't allow them to get ahead right there. That's why we brought James in, our closer."

Twelve pitches later, the side was retired on a sacrifice bunt and two strikeouts looking.

"This is what that kid lives for," Gould said. "You're either going to do it or not."

Lonetree opened the scoring in the second inning when he walked, advanced to second on Gilbert Pena's walk, stole third on a pitch in the dirt and scored on Kevin Spencer's fielder's choice.

Bostick kicked off another round of scoring in the third, smacking a triple to right-center field and scoring later on a passed ball. Julian Arrechevala added another when he walked, stole second, advanced to third on the same passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.

"There's a lot of heart with this team," Gould said. "They never quit."

A double, a single and a wild pitch gave Madera two runs in the bottom of the third, and Madera evened the score in the fifth before Bostick and Abejuela sealed it in the sixth.

"Every time we played in Madera last year, we came back with a loss," Bostick said. "This time they came to our house, and we won."
