The Los Baños High varsity baseball squad didn't have the best of season last year, but this 2010 the Tigers have a decent amount of talent returning to perhaps contend in the Central California Conference.

Los Baños indeed has a bit of potential.

The Tigers are returning eight seniors and they're returning their junior shortstop in Derrick Velasquez, who started at the shortstop position as a sophomore when LB went 2-10 in the CCC, 6-18-1 overall.

Los Baños also has a talented group of juniors who are looking to take their game from the sophomore rank up to the varsity level.

Marcus Arista is a returning senior who plays solid behind the plate as the team's catcher.

Arista was second on the team in RBIs last year with 12.

Jake Barcellos, who is now-graduated, led the team with 18 RBIs in spring '09.

Jordon Cortez is another returning senior who should get significant playing time from the mound.

Jalen Bourbon and Matt Nunes were both pitchers and infielders at the sophomore level last year.

Both Bourbon and Nunes should play major roles for head coach David Zuniga's ball club.

Zachery Brazil, Ryan Carmo, Trever Cascia and Nick Gilardi are a few other juniors will be expected to make a difference this upcoming year.

The Tigers are scheduled to compete at Johansen High's Viking Classic today and Saturday in Modesto.

On Tuesday, Los Baños will be on the road to play against Ceres High of the Valley Oak League at 3:30 p.m.
