Girls varsity soccer shoots for success
The Los Baños High girls varsity soccer team is looking for a significant turnaround in 2010.
Considering this will be the Tigers' last year in the Central California Conference, head coach Larry Goodger's bunch is looking to go out with the proverbial bang.
"I think we're going to have a great season," Goodger said. "I think we have all of our players put into place, and I think we will have a fantastic season.
"We brought up some players from the (junior varsity) because I hate to see talent wasted at the JV level. We are going to have a good season this year."
Los Baños has a handful of returning players with varsity experience as well.
April Hernandez is a returning senior forward.
Jennifer Diaz is a returning senior defender and Janet Lopez is a returning midfielder who played plenty at the varsity level last year as a sophomore.
Forward Susana Medina and midfielder Brianna Bostick are returning seniors as well. The Tigers, who defeated Orestimba of Newman 10-0 on Monday afternoon, also have a solid trio of freshman on this year's roster.
The Tigers will also be depending on its first-year varsity goalie, junior Leila Melendez, who has played well thus far in the season.
Leilanii Mandujano is another junior up from last year's frosh-soph squad who is expected to contribute as a defender.
LB will be competing at the Buffalo Cup Tournament at Manteca High today and Saturday.
On Monday, LB will play in Turlock against Turlock Christian High at the Turlock Regional Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m.
