Mabel Flores takes third place at girls wrestling tournament
ENTERPRISE STAFF REPORT /
HANFORD -- Mabel Flores of the Los Baños High varsity wrestling team placed third at a girls wrestling tournament in Hanford on Friday and Saturday.
Flores (126) was the only Los Baños wrestler to make it to the second day of the competition.
The other three girls who competed for the Tigers were eliminated after the first day.
Flores ended up losing to a defending girls state champion in Amanda Henedy in the semi-final round of the tourney.
"I was a little mad about (the loss)," said Flores, who is currently one of the top ranked girls in the 126-pound division throughout the state.
"I know I could have won it. All the other matches was on my game -- always the one shooting first."
Flores went 5-1 at the tournament before being eliminated on Saturday.
Crista Rangel (127) was the only other girl wrestler from Los Baños to win a match.
Rangel went 1-2 before being eliminated.
The Los Baños High wrestling team will be in action again on Thursday at the Central California Conference Tournament.
Los Baños had a bye on Wednesday and puled out of the Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Pitman High of Turlock on Saturday in order to get ready for the CCC Tournament in six more days.
