The Interact Club at Los Baños High School is making a commitment to start a tradition for those who need it most, members say. The club will be hosting its inaugural fashion show on Feb. 19 and 20, and donating all proceeds to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera.

After visiting a Fresno high school for its 13th annual fashion show, coordinators Alysha Izoco and Jane DeMoss decided it was time for Los Baños to facilitate a similar fundraiser.

"We noticed how much they raised and thought it was a great, fun way to make a donation to a good cause," Izoco said. The Fresno high school also donated proceeds to a local hospital.

Students in the Interact Club decided that they're going to donate proceeds to Valley Children's Hospital in memory of Dos Palos' late Lia Brady, who died at age 6 of cancer.

"When we started talking about the fashion show in September, we wanted to donate proceeds to Lia and her family, but after she died, we thought we'd donate to the hospital in her memory," Izoco said.

There are 14 student-models from the high school participating in the event, Izoco said.

"We wanted to have children from Valley Children's participate but it's flu season and they can't leave the hospital," she said. "We have a couple children from Los Baños who may participate, but we're not 100 percent sure yet."

DeMoss said there may be plans in the future to open up the fashion to other student-models in the district, not just at the high school.

With 15 active students from the Interact Club working to make the event a success, Izoco said she's confident the foundraiser will turn out well.

"I'm hoping future members will continue the event after we graduate," she said of herself and DeMoss, both seniors.

Club members have been working with local businesses, who have agreed to donate popular styles to the models for the two-day run. Models will also feature their own clothes at the start of the show, Izoco said.

DeMoss said club members were grateful for the support local businesses had given the new event. She also said that numerous individuals had come through and planned to help cook the hors d'oeuvres and desserts for the VIP night.

Two dates of the show are available to those interested in attending, both days' proceeds will go to the hospital. The event will be held at the high school.

The VIP night will be held Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25. The night's event will include a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, beverages and desserts. It's also semi-formal attire. Student night will be held Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8. Tickets can be purchased by calling either Izoco, 777-1391, or DeMoss, 769-7345, or e-mailing fashionshow4lia@live.com. Tickets are still available for both shows.

"Anyone can come to either night," Izoco said.

Izoco said she wants community members to remember that it's not about the fashion show. It's about the cause behind it.

"It's not about about the clothes, or the models. We wanted to raise money for Valley Children's and I think this is a great way to do it. It's an entertaining way of doing it," she said.

Izoco said she hopes the event branches out to a wider community audience, not just high school students, parents and faculty.

"We've gotten a good response but we're really hoping people spread the word throughout the community about the event," Izoco said.

DeMoss added, "We're really excited."
