Thunder strikes Los Banos boys freshman team

The Los Baños High boys freshman basketball team didn't have enough size to matchup against Buhach Colony High of Atwater on Wednesday.

The Tigers fell to 0-3 in the Central California Conference following a 70-40 loss against the Thunder.

Daniel Marquez finished with a team-high 21 points.

"Daniel got real comfortable after I told him he has to shoot," Los Baños head coach Keith Jones said. "I didn't think we were out of the game until midway through the fourth.

"(Buhach) is decent -- top three in the league with Golden Valley and Merced."

Marquez was 4 of 5 from the 3-point line.

Isaiah Gallardo finished with 5 points and Daeton West had 4.

Buhach Colony led 18-2 after the first quarter and went into the locker room ahead 36-15.

The Thunder opened the second half on a 26-6 run to pull away for good.

On Friday, Los Baños suffered a 62-44 loss on the road against Atwater High.

West led the Tigers with 14 points. Chris Marquez finished with a team-high 15 points.

D. Marquez had 9 during the loss.

Atwater outscored the tigers 19-10 in the first eight minutes and went on a 25-2 run in the second quarter. Los Baños outscored Atwater 32-18 during the final two quarters.

The Tigers will play against Turlock High today at 4:15 p.m. at Turlock.
