Community briefs: Census job fair planned; sweet time of year; spring fair news; Walk for Life
The local chapter of the NAACP is sponsoring a U.S. Census job fair on Jan. 30 at the Sheldon de Oro Hotel, 13401 South Highway 33 in Santa Nella. The fair will be held from 2 -4 p.m. with testing from 5-6 p.m. The census offers full- and part-time positions with flexible hours up to 40 hours per week that range in pay from $14.50 to $25.50 per hour. Mileage is also reimbursed.

Sweet time of year
Once again it is time for the Annual Los Baños Kiwanis Club's Marie Callender Valentine's Day pie sale.
The following Marie Callender pies are once again being offered for $11 each: Apple, Apple Lite (Sugar Free), Berry, Blueberry, Cherry, Lemon Meringue, Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, French Apple (Cinnamon Streusel Topping), Razzleberry (raspberries & blueberries with a hint of apple), Razzleberry Lite (Sugar Free), Peach, Pecan and Pumpkin.
All prepaid orders must be received by Feb. 4. Pick-up date is Feb. 12 at the Miller & Lux building, 830 Sixth St. from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Spring fair news
Miss May Day applications are available at Los Baños High School and at the Los Baños Fairgrounds beginning Jan. 18. Applicants must be between 16 and 21 years old no later than May 1, and must be residents of Merced County for at least six months. Candidates cannot have been married or have an annulled marriage, and must be a student with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Walk for Life
The sixth annual Walk for Life West Coast event will be held Jan. 23 in San Francisco. A bus will be leaving from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Los Baños at 7:45 a.m. and will arrive back in Los Baños around 5:30 p.m. The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Justin Herman Plaza, at the Embarcardero in San Francisco. The cost to ride the bus is $22. To sign up, contact Rhonda (209)826-3667. Attend the event as walkers challenge the belief that abortion is a good choice for women. Walk to proclaim that life is the best choice for women.
