ATWATER -- The Los Baños High boys freshman basketball squad closed the Atwater High frosh tournament with two single-digit losses.

On Wednesday against Atwater, the Tigers lost 47-41 and finished the tournament 0-3.

"It was close until the end," Los Baños head coach Keith Jones said. "We were within three points with 30 seconds left and turned it over twice.

"And then Atwater hit a 3 to end the game."

Los Baños had a chance to pull within one with a layup, but coach Jones wanted to tie the game with a 3-pointer.

The Tigers never got the chance.

"I wanted to sink a 3," Jones said. "There were 22 seconds left, and I felt we could knock it down.

"We didn't get a clean shot off and we turned it over. And then Atwater ran the clock down on us."

Daniel Marquez finished with 8 points and Isaiah Gallardo had 9.

Anthony Castaneda finished with a team-high 12 points, and four others finished with 2 apiece.

Los Baños outscored Atwater 15-12 in the third quarter.

After halftime the Tigers turned up their full-court, man-to-man pressure and made it a 1-point ball game heading into the fourth frame.

"I think we got a little winded in the fourth," Jones said. "I had two guys in foul trouble, so they couldn't be as aggressive as they needed to be and that kind of hurt us.

"Our big guy Chris (Marquez) was gone, too."

On Tuesday the Tigers lost against Livingston High, 46-42.

Livingston outscored Los Baños by three points during the final eight minutes to pull away with the victory.

D. Marquez finished with 15 and West had 9. C. Marquez had 10 and Gallardo finished with 5 points.

On Monday Los Baños opened the tournament against Central California Conference foe Buhach Colony High of Atwater. Buhach Colony used its size and strength to grind its way to a 62-20 victory over the Tigers.

No LB player scored in double figures as West led the way with 8 points.

On Wednesday, the Tigers will travel to Merced to open CCC play against Golden Valley High. On Friday, LB will be at home against Atwater.

The Tigers fell to 3-9 to conclude preseason play.

"We need to get more aggressive," Jones added. "We need to take care of the ball. They've picked it up and turned it on, it's just having confidence on offense."
