TAFT -- The game film didn't lie.

Taft was too big, too physical and too explosive for short-handed Dos Palos in a 27-0 victory in the second round of the Central Section Division IV playoffs on Friday.

Four different rushers scored touchdowns and Taft smothered Dos Palos' Kevin Schofield, improving to 9-2 on the season.

Cody Shirreffs rushed for a game-high 137 yards on 17 carries and opened the scoring with a second-quarter touchdown run.

Taft took control in the third quarter, scoring on back-to-back plays to open the half.

Brice Royal (10 carries, 52 yards) had a 67-yard run on the first play from scrimmage to make it 14-0. Daniel Watts one-upped his teammate on Taft's next offensive play.

Watts took a handoff and scooted 77 yards through the Dos Palos defense to make it 21-0 in a flash.

It didn't get much easier when Taft switched to defense.

Kevin Schofield finished with just 39 yards on 17 carries.

The run game, Sparks said, was affected by the absence of left tackle William Zeledon, who injured his ankle in last week's victory and did not play.
