In celebrating its recent 25th anniversary, Young's Air Conditioning hosted an open house event to bring the community in on some of its quarter-century festivities.
The open house was also an opportunity for community members to learn more about the business' services, Co-Owner Charles Young said.
"We had a great turn out with many of our original customers (of 25 years), new customers interesed in energy savings, as well as, many of our employees and families," Young said. "It was a great day."
Education was an important part of the day, Young said.
"We wanted to educate the community on our new services; alternative energy services, solar energy systems, wind energy systems and insulation," he said. "We're focusing on reducing energy costs in the home."
Young said the family business -- three generations of serving the community -- has grown into more than the name since its start.
"We're more than just air conditioning," Young said. "That's our bread and butter but we've evolved, we're a energy solutions company."
Kim Sonnenberg, office manager, said she felt having the open house was a great way to bring customers into the business' new building, one the company moved into two years ago.
"We wanted to showcase our services," she said. "We've expanded greatly."
Young agreed that Los Baños has proven to be stepping in the "green" direction.
"We've seen a good amount of interest," he said about the company's new services. "I think people become more curious once they start seeing the benefits. It's very cost efficient, among other things."
Young said generating energy and power through solar systems, such as the ones the company is installing, is more efficient for homeowners.
Young said there are plans in the future for an "energy fair."
"We would like to share with the community how they can save money on a daily basis, from changing light bulbs to CFL (compact fluorescent lightbulbs), high efficiency HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems, attic insulation, and alternative energy such as solar and wind," he said.
Sonnenberg added "We're promoting energy-saving, and all of these things do that."
Young said the company's team is constantly attending training sessions to better understand the changing field and bring energy-saving products into Los Baños homes.
Debbie Furnish, of the human resources department at Young's, said she thought the event was a significant success.
"We had about 100 people come by," she said. "And (Richard and Charles Young) feel like it's something they'd like to do again in the future. It really showed the community about our services. A lot of people don't realize we do all that."
Young said he continues to attribute the company's success to the citizens of Los Baños.
"We really want to thank the community," Young said. "Without our customers, we wouldn't be here. And we see Young's Air Conditioning hard at work helping our community to reduce and produce energy usage for the next 25 years and beyond."
