Local residents 'Tea'd,' political protest held

Some Los Baños residents have had enough.
And they’re going to continue voicing their frustrations until something changes.
The local group hosted Los Baños’ second “Tea Party,” continuing their protest against higher taxes and what they believe to be out-of-control spending by the federal government.
“We’re participating today to hopefully start a movement to bring awareness on how big our government is getting,” Kathy Uhley, who helped coordinate the event. “We want less taxation and less spending.
“And what better day to have the event than the fourth of July,” she said.
The event was recognized nationally, being featured in thousands of cities nationwide.
“Like-minded individuals, all types of people, Republicans, Democrats; everyone is getting involved,” Uhley said.
“It’s a free country; if people want to go anti-Tea Party across the street, go for it,” she said.
Uhley said since the last Los Baños Tea Party, more residents are paying closer attention to government issues.
Signs lined Pacheco Park on Pacheco Boulevard, reading “Wake up America, your liberty is dying;” “You can’t spend your way out of debt;” and “Party like its 1773.”
Co-coordinator Greg Uhley said between 60-70 people attended the event.
“We had a real long stretch of flags, and banners,” he said. “We got a lot of people from Dos Palos, also; it was a good mix.”
Dean Wilson, a Los Baños residents, said he’d like to see the government, federal and state, more conservative about its spending.
“Enough is enough,” Wilson said.
Stacey Tennant agreed. She said the government can’t keep taxing everyone.
“And the elderly,” Tennant said. “I think they’ve dug deep enough. Both parties, (Democratic and Republican) need to stop taking people.”
Tennant said the local TEA Party was part of a huge movement of all political parties coming together.
“And people who haven’t voiced their opinions before are becoming energized and speaking out. The community needs to pull together and hold the government accountable. If the government was responsible I wouldn’t mind.”
Greg Uhley said while everyone who attended the event had their own opinions about various issues, a major part of his concern is with the media.
“I blame the media,” Greg Uhley said. “So many people don’t know about a lot of things that are going on. Mainstream media is destroying our country; it’s not being objective.”
Uhley also said in continuing to bring awareness to Los Baños, something he believes the tea parties are successfully doing, the local group plans to target youth as a next step.
“We want to get younger people involved in the political arena,” he said. “Bottom line, we’re hoping Patriots can figure out a way to bring American back and what it really stands for; freedom.
“And hopefully we’ll get there. There’s a lot of angry people out there and I think their anger is justified,” he said.
