Los Baños National's 11-year-old All-Star Jesse Cortez had a phenomenal game Wednesday night during the second round of the District 10 Little League 11-year-old All-Star Tournament at Colorado Park.
Cortez not only pitched 8 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, but he also registered the game-winning RBI-single in the top of the 10th inning that propelled Los Baños National into Monday's semifinal with a 1-0 victory.
"Jesse had one five-pitch inning," said Mike Wilson, head skipper of the Los Baños National 11-year-old All-Stars. "So that tells you how many strikes he was throwing. He was throwing hard, and he was lights out.
"The kids were really excited to win that game on (Wednesday). They're ready. These kids haven't gave up a run yet in two games, and we have (Chris Corral) going on Monday."
Corral got the start this past Monday during the tournament opener against Turlock American, too. He went the complete game and Los Baños knocked off the host, 2-0.
Tristen Trevino had the first RBI and Cortez had the second RBI before Los Baños' defense closed out the ballgame.
Ruben Sanchez closed out Madera American and went the final three innings from the hill.
Cortez made the final out of the contest after scooping up the ball and getting it to first base.
Tyler Wilson scored the game-winning run after getting across the plate from second after Cortez put the ball in play.
Madera American got out the inning on the same play when Corral was caught attempting to make it to third.
Los Baños National will play on Monday against Turlock National for a trip to the semifinals on Wednesday night.
The sight has yet to be determined.
