Letter to the Editor: City manager 'stunned'?
At the most recent City Council meeting our city manager made the statement that he was "stunned" by the dramatic decrease in our property values.
Where has he been? Certainly he hasn't been keeping up with the current market prices of our local homes. What he should be "stunned" about is that there have been two major embezzlements within his administration during the past two years and he has failed to hold himself accountable.
Well Mr. Rath, it is you the chief executive officer of our city who should be held responsible for being derelict in your duties. You and our CFO have failed and should be fired immediately. This second embezzlement was not some elaborate and sophisticated scheme it was simply a matter of basic bookkeeping. Water and garbage fees are paid at City Hall on a daily basis and deposits are made on a daily basis one block away at Wells Fargo Bank. Amount received should match amount deposited. Fairly simple stuff Mr. Rath. Would you care to share with us the amount of money stolen from us citizens while under your leadership?
Oh yes, we know that in your contract it takes 4 votes to terminate you.
Sincerely,
Manuel Mello
