Enterprise staff report

The freshman Tigers first football game of the season against Fresno High School was a walk in the park.

Los Baños ambled to a 27-0 halftime lead on its way to a 34-0 victory as every member of the team had a chance to take the field against the Warriors at home on Thursday.

But the lopsided score may not have been to the Tigers advantage as the team prepares to take on Tracy at the Bulldogs home field next week. Fresno’s team, a third smaller in number than the Tigers’, had not even played a scrimmage game before coming to Los Baños.

“We didn’t have much competition and that is not going to help us next week against Tracy,” said freshman coach John Painter. “We’ve got to get up, get prepared and do the best we can.”

Against the Warriors, running back Gregory Williams scored three touchdowns in the first half and a fourth in the third quarter that was called back on a penalty.

Garrett Mentz added a touchdown in the first half for the Tigers and Sammy Palemia sealed the deal with a touchdown early in the final quarter.

On defense, the Tigers overwhelmed Fresno’s team forcing four-and-outs on numerous occassions. Bryce Howard had an excellent outing with several tackles and sacks in the Warriors’ backfield.

Jovani De La Cruz kicked four of five extra point attempts through the uprights for the Tigers.
