The Los Baños Arts Council is continuing its commitment to bringing diverse musical entertainment to Los Baños with its next performer Blue Cheese.

Already receiving rave reviews throughout Northern California Blue Cheese will make its Los Baños debut July 12, at the Ted Falasco Arts Center.

"This is an up-and-coming yet experienced band and should please those who have asked for a broader musical scope than we've presented in the past," Gary Wulbern, co-chairman of the event, said.

Wilbern describes Blue Cheese as having a solid stage performance of "hard drivin" music that includes modern and traditional blues pieces.

Blue Cheese is fronted by Los Baños native Dennis "Spike" Calvino who plays rhythm and lead guitar and signs. He formed the band with James "Skip" Pillows, Alan Hall and Mike Simpson.

The group formed in 2005 originally as a trio but after some changes and determinations the band in its present four-piece form have been together now for about six months.

Although the band itself is young, its members are seasoned musicians with more than 120 years of combined experience.

The band's musical stylings are diverse, they can play anything form R&B to Big Band and Swing, and they appeal to a wide audience which is why Wulbern said the arts council booked them.

"Several people have approached me to say how pleased the are that the Arts Council is providing a family-friendly atmosphere where they can hear the band," he said.

Blue Cheese concert begins at 7:30 p.m., July 12, at the arts center, Fifth and K streets. General admission is $15. Tickets may be purchased by calling Wulbern at 826-0489 or by purchasing them at Fantasia Records, 921 6th St.
