Hailed as one of the best Filipino guitarists by fans and critics alike, Perfecto De Castro will bring world stage career to Los Baños.
De Castro will perform at 7 p.m., today at the United Methodist Church. This evening of solo classical guitar will feature music from De Castro's album, "A Journey through 10 Strings."
Pastor Glen Raley said he recently heard a CD of De Castro's and was impressed by the young musician and his unique instrument.
"We are all looking forward to it," Raley said.
De Castro's visit to Los Baños was possible by the church's music leader who knew him personally.
Raley said he and others thought it would be a great fundraising opportunity to have him perform and a good way to expose Los Baños to different types of music.
An active concert performer for more than 20 years, De Castro has enjoyed a musically-diverse career. His instrument of choice, the laudarra or 10-string classical guitar, affords him a wider musical range and colorful sonority that transforms each piece, raising them to a higher level of musical potential not usually heard on a standard six-string guitar.
At the core of his repertoire, lies the rich and appealing blend of Eastern and Western musical influences -- from the simplistic beauty of indigenous ethnic melodies and challenging rhythms of folk dances -- to Spanish-flavored art songs and contemporary fusion of all aforementioned elements.
De Castro is currently based in Azusa. He maintains, aside from his concert schedule, a roster of more than 40 guitar students of various musical styles.
The church is located at 1031 Iowa Street. A suggested donation of $15 is requested. Call 209-826-4181 or email@example.com.
