Long before we entered this age of speed, I was born into a family of workaholics. My dad has always had 2 or 3 projects going at all times. Even when he would finally sit down in the evening he would be on the phone, reading the newspaper and watching television. It is still hard for him to take a break or go on vacation, but he does take time for church on Sundays. I suspect it was my mom's idea, but as long as I can remember, we have regularly attended church each Sunday.

Genesis 2:1-3 tells us that even God rested after working six days to create the world we live in. Everyone needs a day of rest, especially in our age of anxiety and stress. Believe me I know the stress of not being able to get everything done that needs to be done, but the truth is a day of rest each week is just as important to our health as food, water and sleep.

If you or your family is suffering from anxiety or stress, may I suggest a day of rest each week. Now be careful, do not plan some big outing that will require a lot of planning and preparation. Too many times we take a vacation and come home more exhausted than before we left. Take a day and just spend some time thanking God for the many blessings you have received. We have all been blessed; it's just a little hard to see sometimes.

Here's a story my mom shared with me this past month, its entitled "The Little Things".

As you might know the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started

Kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off on time.

One was late because of being stuck on the New Jersey turnpike because of an auto

accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One's car wouldn't start.

One went back to answer the phone.

One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have.

One couldn't get a Taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning and decided to walk to work that day, but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drug store to buy a Band-Aid and that is why he is alive today.

Maybe you are like me and tend to get a little anxious and frustrated when we can't seem to get caught up on all the things we want to accomplish, because of some unforeseen delay; if so remember this truth, God knows where you are. Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing phone . . . all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

So no matter how much you have to do, always remember to take a break on Sunday and spend sometime that day to thank God for the week he gave you. If you have a church home I want to encourage you to be in church this and every week. If you do not attend church I want to encourage you to begin this week. Take a break, its O.K., trust me you'll be better for it.
