The Los Ba&#241;os High boys freshman basketball team fell behind quickly during Monday's preseason opener against Beyer High of Modesto.</p><p>After the first eight minutes, Beyer led by 17 points and cruised to a 57-29 victory.</p><p>"I wasn't disappointed that we lost, but they didn't come out with any heart," Los Ba&#241;os head freshman coach Keith Jones said. "They were scared. Beyer wasn't a better team than they were, we just played scared and handed them the game."</p><p>Los Ba&#241;os' Daeton West led the team with 14 points.</p><p>"Daeton can't have 30 points and everybody else two or three and we lose," Jones said. "35 points with no victory is no good."</p><p>Chris Marquez finished with four points and Issac Samaneigo three. Four others scored two apiece.</p><p>Los Ba&#241;os made it a 10-point game toward the end of the second quarter when Samaneigo hit his only shot of the ball game from beyond the arc.</p><p>West took it to the bucket all by himself on the next possession to make it an eight-point contest, but that was as close as the Tigers got.</p><p>"These guys have to believe in themselves," Jones added. "We settled down after halftime and we didn't look tired. </p><p>"We need to learn how to protect the ball and recognize what the defense is doing."</p><p>The Los Ba&#241;os frosh boys will play again on Wednesday at the Ceres tournament.
