The Los Baños High boys freshman basketball team fell behind quickly during Monday's preseason opener against Beyer High of Modesto.

After the first eight minutes, Beyer led by 17 points and cruised to a 57-29 victory.

"I wasn't disappointed that we lost, but they didn't come out with any heart," Los Baños head freshman coach Keith Jones said. "They were scared. Beyer wasn't a better team than they were, we just played scared and handed them the game."

Los Baños' Daeton West led the team with 14 points.

"Daeton can't have 30 points and everybody else two or three and we lose," Jones said. "35 points with no victory is no good."

Chris Marquez finished with four points and Issac Samaneigo three. Four others scored two apiece.

Los Baños made it a 10-point game toward the end of the second quarter when Samaneigo hit his only shot of the ball game from beyond the arc.

West took it to the bucket all by himself on the next possession to make it an eight-point contest, but that was as close as the Tigers got.

"These guys have to believe in themselves," Jones added. "We settled down after halftime and we didn't look tired.

"We need to learn how to protect the ball and recognize what the defense is doing."

The Los Baños frosh boys will play again on Wednesday at the Ceres tournament. LB will play against Escalon High at 6:30 p.m. at Ceres High.
